Japan's imperial heritage and borders of memory, 2023, 20230401, 20270331, 23H00781, This project analyzes how sites of heritage shape contestation and reconciliation between communities. It develops the concept of borders of memory to understand heritage sites as spaces where narratives and memories come into contact. It analyzes multiple heritage sites associated with Japan's Empire, and considers how heritage may become spaces for connection rather than contestation.
